Drifting away – to move slowly in another direction. To get distracted, to start daydreaming.
Example (Eg.) During the meeting, it seemed like Mike had drifted away.
Lapse– Usually considered negative. A missing amount of time; forgetting to do something.
Eg. The employee’s health insurance lapsed because he didn’t sign his paperwork in time.
Avoid– not doing something or keeping away from something or someone.
Eg. I avoid driving on the A8 in the morning, there is always traffic.
Multi-tasking– doing many things at one time.
Eg. Parents are experts at multi-tasking. They cook, clean, work and take care of their kids
Counterproductive– Usually considered negative. Doing the opposite of what you want to do or have planned to do.
Eg. Having kids start school at 7:30 in the morning is counterproductive.
Sloppy– untidy or messy.
Eg. You shouldn’t wear jogging pants to work, it looks sloppy.
Overwhelm– a strong emotional feeling of something being too much.
Eg. She was overwhelmed with joy at getting the promotion.
He had to stay late at work, because he was overwhelmed with the preparation for the presentation.
Mono-tasking– doing one thing at a time.
Eg. Instead of doing many things at the same time, try mono-tasking instead.
Spread yourself too thin– doing too many things at once that then has a negative impact on the quality of your work.
Eg. She is spreading herself too thin with all the tasks she is doing at the moment.
Short burst– a small amount of time or energy.
Eg. After lunch I had a short burst of energy before I got tired again.
Unwind– to relax
Eg. After a long day at work, she likes to unwind by doing yoga.
Notification– a notice or new information
Eg. I turn off the notifications on my phone at night.
Night owl– a person who likes to be awake at night. Someone who is more productive in the evening.
Eg.I’m a night owl as I prefer to work at night.
Early bird– a person who wakes up early. Someone who is more productive in the early hours of the morning.
Eg. My husband is an early bird. He likes getting up early to work.
