Business English Vocabulary and Idioms
An idiom is a group of words or a phrase where the meaning is not immediately clear from the individual words. For example, “a ball park figure” is an estimate of the costs of something, as in “Can you give me a ball park figure?”
Using idioms when you speak English can help you impress with your English ability. However, if the person or people you are communicating with do not understand the idiom you are using, it can lead to confusion and miscommunication. Therefore you need to be careful about when and where you use idioms.
In this module, we have compiled a list of common Business English idioms with exercises to help you learn them. If you know of any other idioms that you think other people might find useful, please share them with us.
